$3600 Stimulus Checks Backed by Biden ~ Is there any Chance of Approval and Check if You are Eligible?

In the months after the COVID 19 pandemic had become a big news, it was announced by the US President Joe Biden that as part of the American Rescue Plan, there is going to be an increase in the amount which is sent out to the eligible individuals for their Child Tax Credit. This expansion had been announced for a short time, and after the economic boost was seen as normal, it was announced that the amount of Child Tax Credit is going to be the old amount (which was before pandemic).

This was an important update in the year 2021, as the COVID 19 had become the main reason for the financial struggles which every US resident had to face between the years of 2020 and 2021. It was also mentioned that these struggles had been with the residents in every US state, and this was because there had been a big rise in the daily costs of living for these residents. This was also reported as the high rates of inflation had put a lot of US individuals and/ or families in a need of financial support.

Biden Backs $3600 Stimulus Checks

The COVID 19 pandemic had led to a lot of families who had started to face difficulties with their basic expenses, and there was a big demand by these families and/ or individuals to get Federal help for their finances to cover these expenses. To help with this, the Federal Government in the US had decided to send out various Stimulus Checks to the eligible citizens who were earning either low incomes or moderate incomes. It must be noted that these Economic Impact Payments or the EIPs had been sent out in a total of three rounds, and the last round was scheduled in March 2021.

The Stimulus Payments had started in March 2020, and the amount which was set in the payment was about $1200. This was followed by the second round of Stimulus Checks in December of 2020, and the amount which was distributed as part of this Second Stimulus Check was about $600. Not only that, there was an additional $600 which were provided to the individuals who were eligible with a dependent. As of December 2023, there have been various social media posts which have suggested that there is going to be a Fourth Stimulus Check which is upcoming before the year of 2023 comes to an end, and it has been announced by the IRS that this news is false.

As mentioned, the social media posts, which have included the residents of California, Colorado, Maryland, Delaware, New York, etc. to be in the waitlist for another round of Federal Stimulus Check in December 2023, are not true. This is because the IRS has made an announcement that the Federal Financial Support has come to an end with the third round of the EIPs, and not only that, there is a chance for all the people who have either missed a stimulus payment or who have not received their full checks to claim it.

This can be done by filing for the 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit for which the last date is 17th May 2024, and for the 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit, it has been reported that the last date to file the claim is 15th April 2025. As 2024 comes closer, there are reports which have mentioned that the US lawmakers are trying to bring back the expansion of the Child Tax Credit Plan starting from 2024. It has been reported that the Democrats want the complete return of Biden’s COVID 19 bill for expanded CTC, but at the same time, the Republicans are trying to add more provisions for the unborn children too.

Child Tax Credit Expansion Permanent

In the months during the COVID 19 pandemic, Biden had announced an expansion for the Child Tax Credit as part of the American Rescue Plan, but it was later removed in 2021. The expansion had increased the annual credit of $2000 for a child to $3000 for every eligible child who was above 6. Not only that, the credit was between the amounts $2000 and $3600 for an eligible child below 6 years, and the credit was refundable which was helpful to the low income families, as they were able to get the full benefits.

The expansion bill had also increased the age, and these checks had been sent out monthly until 2021. For this reason, Democrats including DeLauro and others have been trying to bring it back. This has resulted in bringing forward The America Family Act in July 2023 (supported by over 203 members), when it was mentioned that a permanent expansion in the CTC is going to help with issues like child poverty, high inflation, etc. The American Family Act is going to:

  • Remove the refundable credit limitation.
  • Provide a Young Child Tax Credit (for children below 6) for $300 every month, which is to say that the payment will be increased to $3600 every year from the old amount of $2000.
  • Increase the maximum CTC payment to about $250 every month (which is $3000 from the old amount of $2000) for kids between 6 and 17 years.
  • Provide these credits and payments as monthly deposits so that the families have them ready when they need to use the money for bills.
  • Extend the improved CTC to the US territories.
